Shed Slabs

A shed slab looks simple, but the difference between a slab that lasts and one that cracks under a hoist or truck is decided before the concrete arrives: thickness, reinforcement, base preparation and edge detail all matched to what the shed will actually hold. High Calibre Concrete Construction pours shed and garage slabs across South East Queensland, from suburban garden sheds to large spans on acreage.

SPECIFIED FOR THE LOAD

A garden shed slab carries very different loads to a shed housing a car hoist, a tractor or a loaded trailer. We specify thickness, concrete strength and mesh accordingly, typically from 100 mm for light duty up to 150 mm or more with heavier reinforcement for machinery, and we thicken edges where the shed frame anchors. If your shed supplier has an engineered slab design, we build to it exactly, including hold down bolt placement cast accurately for the frame.

APRONS AND ACCESS

Most sheds work better with an apron slab at the door for a clean transition and with falls that keep stormwater out. On acreage we look at vehicle access for the concrete trucks, and where the site is soft or remote we plan pump placement so the pour is not compromised.

DONE ONCE, DONE RIGHT

Replacing a failed shed slab means demolishing the slab under a standing shed. It is the clearest case in concreting for doing the job properly the first time, and that is how we quote it.

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends entirely on the load. Light garden sheds are fine at 100 mm with standard mesh. Sheds housing vehicles generally need 100 to 125 mm with heavier mesh, and slabs carrying hoists, machinery or trucks are typically 150 mm or more with reinforcement designed for point loads. We specify this in your quote so you can see exactly what you are getting.

Yes. If your shed manufacturer supplies a slab and anchor layout, we set out and cast hold down bolts to that drawing so the frame bolts straight down. Alternatively, chemical anchors can be drilled after curing where the supplier recommends it. We confirm the method with your shed installer before the pour.

Yes, regularly. Acreage work mostly comes down to planning: truck access across the property, whether a concrete pump is needed, base preparation on uneven ground and managing bigger slab areas in one pour. We assess all of that at the quote stage so there are no surprises on the day.
