Shed Slabs in Gold Coast

Sheds are going up across the Gold Coast at pace, from double garages and workshops on corridor blocks at Coomera and Ormeau, through to large boat, caravan and machinery sheds on the bigger parcels toward Willow Vale and the hinterland edge. High Calibre Concrete Construction pours shed slabs across the city for homeowners, and the single thing we get asked to fix most often is a slab that was never specified for what ended up sitting on it.

A shed slab looks like a simple pour, but the difference between one that lasts and one that cracks under a hoist or a loaded trailer is decided before the concrete arrives. Thickness, reinforcement, base preparation and edge detail all have to match the real load. We are QBCC licensed and fully insured, we quote the specification in writing, and where your shed supplier provides an engineered slab and anchor drawing we build to it exactly.

What We Pour

Shed and Garage Slabs We Build on the Gold Coast

What the shed will hold determines the slab, not the size of the shed. Tell us what is going in it and we will specify thickness, reinforcement and edge detail to suit.

Small shed slab formwork with concrete pump hose in place

Garden and Storage Shed Slabs

Light duty slabs at around 100 mm with standard mesh on a properly compacted base. Straightforward pours, but still worth doing correctly, because a shed sitting on a poor slab is expensive to fix later.

Garage and Workshop Slabs

Rated for daily vehicle traffic, typically 100 to 125 mm with heavier mesh, thickened edges where the frame anchors and falls set so water runs out the door rather than pooling inside.

Machinery and Hoist Rated Slabs

A hoist concentrates several tonnes onto small baseplates. These slabs are commonly 150 mm or more with reinforcement designed for point loads, and we specify them from the hoist or machinery model.

Boat and Caravan Shed Slabs

Sized for the trailer and vessel weight, with wash down falls and drainage provision so salt water does not pond against the frame. Common through the Broadwater and canal suburbs.

Specify It Once

Why Shed Slabs Crack Under Load

Almost every failed shed slab we are called to replace has the same story behind it: the slab was poured for the shed, not for what went into the shed. A 100 mm slab with standard mesh is fine under a mower and a few boxes. Put a car hoist, a tractor, a loaded boat trailer or a truck on that same slab and the load concentrates onto small areas the slab was never designed to carry, and it cracks. Replacing a failed shed slab means demolishing concrete underneath a standing shed, which is difficult and expensive. It is the clearest case in concreting for specifying it properly the first time, and that is how we quote it.

Pricing

What Affects the Cost of a Shed Slab on the Gold Coast

We do not publish a square metre rate, because a rate without a specification tells you nothing. These are the factors that actually move the number on a Gold Coast job.

What changes the cost

  • What the shed will hold. Thickness and reinforcement are specified for the real load, and this is the biggest single price driver.
  • Slab area. Square metres, plus any apron at the door for a clean transition and vehicle turning.
  • Site preparation. Hinterland edge and sloping blocks often need cut and fill to create a level platform, sometimes with retaining at the high side.
  • Access. Acreage and tight suburban blocks may need a concrete pump or longer chute runs where trucks cannot reach the pad.
  • Hold down bolts. Casting bolts to your supplier drawing adds set out time but saves redrilling on installation day.
  • Drainage detail. Boat sheds and wash down bays need falls and drainage provision designed in from the start.

Your quote states the specification in writing so you can compare it fairly.

For Builders and Developers

Shed Slabs for Builders and Shed Suppliers

We pour shed and garage slabs for builders, shed suppliers and developers across the Gold Coast. Shed companies in particular value a concreter who reads the anchor drawing properly, casts bolts accurately and has the pad ready on the date the installation crew is booked, because a slab that is out by twenty millimetres costs them a day. We work to your schedule, coordinate directly with your installers and are set up for ongoing work across multiple sites.

Local Knowledge

What Matters on the Gold Coast

Shed approvals on the Gold Coast run through building certification, with siting rules affecting boundary setbacks, and corridor estates may add covenant constraints on shed size and placement. Ground conditions matter here too: sandy profiles near the Broadwater behave very differently to reactive clay and fill inland, which changes base preparation. For boat sheds near the water we design for wash down and salt exposure, and on hinterland blocks toward Nerang and Mudgeeraba access planning for trucks or a pump is usually the first thing we assess.

Shed Slabs Gold Coast: Common Questions

It comes down to area and load. A light garden shed slab is a straightforward pour, while a slab rated for a car hoist, tractor or loaded trailer needs more thickness, heavier reinforcement and sometimes engineering, which changes the price. Tell us what will live in the shed and we will specify and quote it properly.

Light garden sheds are fine at 100 mm with standard mesh. Sheds housing vehicles generally need 100 to 125 mm with heavier mesh, and slabs carrying hoists, machinery or trucks are typically 150 mm or more with reinforcement designed for point loads. We state this in your quote so you can see exactly what you are getting.

Yes, and it is our standard practice. Gold Coast shed companies supply engineered slab and anchor layouts, and we build to them exactly so your installer frame bolts straight down without a single redrilled hole. Chemical anchors after curing are the alternative where the supplier recommends it.

A hoist concentrates several tonnes onto small baseplates, so the slab needs specified thickness and reinforcement at those points, commonly 150 mm or more depending on the hoist. Tell us the hoist model when you ask for a quote and we will specify the slab so it is rated for it from day one.

Yes. Hinterland edge and established blocks often need cut and fill to create a level shed platform, with retaining considerations at the high side. We quote the earthworks and the slab together so you see the full cost of a properly built platform up front.

Yes, and boat sheds get specific detailing: falls that carry wash down water out the door, drainage so salt water does not pond against the frame, and sealers chosen for salt exposure. The slab is specified for the trailer and vessel weight, which for larger boats is a genuine structural load.

Most sheds beyond a small garden shed need building approval through a private certifier, and the slab forms part of that approval. Corridor estates may also add covenant constraints on shed size and placement. We build to the approved drawings and coordinate with your certifier where an inspection is required.

Yes. Tight suburban access and acreage pads are routine for us. We use a concrete pump to place concrete precisely where trucks cannot go, and we include any pump cost openly in the quote rather than discovering it on the day.

Yes. We pour shed and garage slabs for shed companies, builders and developers across the Gold Coast, casting bolts accurately to the anchor drawing and having the pad ready for the booked installation date. Call us to discuss ongoing work.
