House Slabs in Brisbane
Brisbane slab work is defined by its ground. The clays across much of the city’s south are moderately to highly reactive, which is why Brisbane slab designs lean on stiffened rafts and waffle systems and why the site classification report is the most important document on the job. High Calibre Concrete Construction pours house slabs across Brisbane’s southside for new homes, and increasingly for extensions, granny flats and secondary dwellings as established blocks are developed further. Infill work is its own discipline: tight access down the side of an existing home, pump pours over houses, protecting neighbouring structures and matching levels to an existing floor. We build each slab to the engineer’s design and AS 2870, coordinate penetrations with your trades, and document reinforcement before concrete goes anywhere near it.

What Matters in Brisbane
Reactive clay across southern Brisbane commonly produces M, H1 and H2 site classifications, which drive stiffer, deeper slab designs. Granny flat and extension slabs on established blocks usually require pump placement and careful protection of existing structures. Brisbane City Council and private certifiers set the inspection hold points we build around.

Frequently Asked Questions
A more reactive classification means a stiffer slab: deeper edge beams, more steel and more concrete, which costs more than a slab on stable ground. It is not a place to economise. We price exactly what the engineer has designed for your classification and will not quote a lighter slab to win a job.
Yes, this is regular work for us in Brisbane. Where trucks cannot reach the back of the block we use a concrete pump, protect the existing house, fences and services along the access path, and set the new slab’s levels properly relative to the existing dwelling and stormwater.
Yes, as standard. Slabs have mandatory inspection points, typically of the steel before the pour. We schedule around your certifier’s inspection, have the engineer’s drawings on site, and photograph the reinforcement and membrane so there is a record of what went into the ground.
