Exposed Aggregate in Gold Coast
Exposed aggregate has become the signature finish of Gold Coast outdoor living, and for good reason. It is decorative enough for a display home, naturally slip resistant enough for a pool deck, and durable enough for a driveway that faces coastal summers year after year. High Calibre Concrete Construction pours exposed aggregate across the Gold Coast, on new builds through the northern corridor at Coomera, Pimpama and Ormeau, and on renovations from Helensvale through Southport, Robina and Mudgeeraba where tired plain concrete is being replaced with something that lifts the whole property.
This is the one finish where the concreter matters more than the mix. The window for exposing the stone shifts with weather, mix design and surface area, and missing it cannot be repaired afterwards. We watch the radar and will move a decorative pour rather than gamble your driveway on the forecast. We are QBCC licensed and fully insured, we bring real samples rather than brochure photos, and we seal for the salt exposure your address actually has.

Where It Works
Exposed Aggregate Applications for Gold Coast Homes
The same finish behaves differently depending on where it goes. We match the blend, the exposure depth and the sealer to the surface and how it will be used.
Exposed Aggregate Driveways
The most requested application on the Gold Coast. Slip resistant on slopes, hides tyre marks and oil far better than plain grey, and adds visible value to the street frontage of the home.
Pool Surrounds and Alfresco
Natural texture gives grip underfoot when wet, which is why it is the default choice around Gold Coast pools. Sealed with salt tolerant product to handle splash from salt water pools.
Paths, Porches and Entries
Smaller decorative areas that tie the frontage together. Exposed aggregate hides leaf staining and everyday marks in high traffic entry areas where plain concrete shows every mark.
Patios and Entertaining Areas
Outdoor living spaces where the surface is on show constantly. The speckled finish stays looking clean between washes and copes with furniture, foot traffic and barbecues.
Getting It Right
Why Exposure Timing Decides the Result
Exposed aggregate is unforgiving in a way plain concrete is not. After the pour, the surface mortar has to be washed back to reveal the stone within a specific window, and that window moves with temperature, humidity, mix design and the size of the area. Expose too early and you wash out too much, leaving stone loose and the surface patchy. Too late and the mortar has set hard over the top and the stone never properly shows. Neither can be fixed afterwards without removing and repouring the slab. On the Gold Coast, summer storms make this genuinely weather dependent, which is why we schedule decorative pours around the radar rather than committing to a date and hoping.
Pricing
What Affects the Cost of Exposed Aggregate on the Gold Coast
We do not publish a square metre rate, because a rate without a specification tells you nothing. These are the factors that actually move the number on a Gold Coast job.
What changes the cost
- The aggregate blend. Decorative mixes cost more than standard grey, and premium stone blends more again. The blend you choose is a real lever on price.
- Area and edge detail. Square metres plus the amount of curves, cutouts and edge work that needs hand finishing.
- Removal of the old surface. Exposed aggregate is a full depth finish, so replacing plain concrete means demolition and cart away.
- Exposure and washing. The stone has to be exposed within a narrow window and washed back evenly, which is skilled labour on top of the pour.
- Sealing. Sealing is included, and canal and beachside addresses use salt tolerant product which costs more than standard sealer.
- Access and fall. Sloping and tight access blocks through Nerang and Mudgeeraba may need a pump or extra site preparation.
Always included
- Blend selection with real samples on site
- Base preparation and steel reinforcement as standard
- Specified strength decorative mix
- Stone exposed within the correct window
- Surface washed back evenly across the whole area
- Control joints cut cleanly through the finish
- Sealed to deepen colour and resist staining
- Advice on resealing intervals for your exposure
Your quote states the specification in writing so you can compare it fairly.

What Matters on the Gold Coast
Gold Coast taste runs coastal: creams, whites, sandy golds and mixed river stone suit rendered and Hamptons styled homes through Hope Island and Paradise Point, while darker basalt blends sit better against contemporary builds. Corridor estates at Coomera and Pimpama frequently specify acceptable driveway finishes in their covenants, and exposed aggregate usually satisfies them, though we confirm the wording before you commit to a blend. Canal front and beachside addresses add marine salt exposure on top of pool salt, so sealer selection changes the closer you get to the water.

Exposed Aggregate Gold Coast: Common Questions
It sits above plain grey concrete because the decorative mix costs more and the exposure and sealing stages add skilled labour. Against pavers it usually compares well, since there are no weeds, no sinking and far less maintenance. Area, blend choice, edge detail and whether an old surface needs removing set the final figure.
Coastal palettes dominate: creams, whites, sandy golds and mixed river stone work with rendered and Hamptons styled homes, while darker basalt blends suit contemporary builds. We bring samples and completed job references so you choose from real surfaces, and we advise honestly on what will still look right in ten years.
No, the opposite. The exposed stone gives the surface natural texture, which is why it is one of the most popular finishes for pool surrounds and sloped driveways in Queensland. The sealer we use is chosen to protect the surface without making it slick.
Yes, with the right sealer. The stone surface handles coastal conditions well, and we finish canal front and Broadwater jobs with sealers selected for salt exposure so colour and surface hold up. Resealing every few years keeps it protected.
Exposed aggregate is a full depth finish, not a thin topping, so the honest answer is usually removal and replacement of the old slab. That also lets us fix the base and drainage problems the old driveway had. We quote removal and the new decorative driveway as one transparent package.
Very little is needed: an occasional wash to remove dirt and leaf matter, prompt cleaning of oil spills, and resealing roughly every two to four years depending on traffic and sun exposure. Resealing is quick and inexpensive, and it keeps the colour rich and the surface protected.
We are honest about this: an exact match to aged exposed aggregate is rarely achievable, because the original stone blend and years of weathering cannot be replicated precisely. We get close with sample matching, or we design a deliberate contrast, and we will tell you which will look better rather than promising a perfect match.
It can, and we would rather it did. Rain during the exposure window washes the surface unevenly and ruins the finish permanently. We watch the radar and will move a decorative pour by a day rather than risk a result that cannot be repaired.
Yes. We pour exposed aggregate driveways, entries and alfresco areas for builders and developers across the Gold Coast, including matching blends consistently across multiple lots in the same estate. Call us to discuss ongoing work.
